While Beyonce is busy growing babies, her work continues. “Formation Scholars” are a group of annual scholarship awards specifically geared toward young women who are studying creative arts, music, literature, or African-American studies. Her website elucidates the purpose:
“to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.”
While the amount of each scholarship has not been mentioned, NPR reports:
“There will be one recipient — either an incoming or current undergraduate or graduate student — at each of the four participating institutions: Boston’s Berklee College of Music; Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Parsons School of Design in New York City; and Atlanta’s Spelman College.”
Since Beyonce dropped her visual album last year, we’ve seen the work spawn higher education syllabuses, a plethora of think pieces, white haterade, a Peabody award, and now a scholarship fund. Ok, ladies, now let’s get in Formation.
